NOW HIRING – Patrol Police Assistant

The Phoenix Police Department is recruiting additional Patrol Police Assistants to staff open positions within the department. These positions will perform a variety of tasks in support of law enforcement activities in a precinct or bureau of the Police Department. These positions will serve a critical role in supporting the department’s mission; to serve, protect and reduce crime in the City of Phoenix while treating everyone with dignity and respect.
This is a uniformed position that involves handling calls for service not requiring the presence of a sworn police officer. Duties can vary by assignment location.
The Phoenix Police Department is a 24-hour 7 day a week operation, patrolling more than 500 square miles. New hires must be willing to accept any shift assigned (which may include nights, weekends, and holidays) in any precinct which may include:
- Black Mountain Precinct: 3355 North Cave Creek Road
- South Mountain Precinct: 12220 North 39th Avenue
- Central City Precinct: 1902 South 16th Street
- Desert Horizon Precinct: 16030 North 56th Street
- Mountain View Precinct: 2075 East Maryland Avenue
- Maryvale Precinct: 6180 West Encanto Boulevard
- Estrella Mountain Station: 2111 South 99th Avenue
- Cactus Park Precinct: 12220 North 39th Avenue
Essential functions and duties include and are not limited to:
- Complete a 7-week Police Assistant Academy to include instruction in first aid, defensive tactics, investigations, report writing, Arizona Revised Statutes, and O.C. spray. The classes will involve physical contact to include exposure to chemical irritants.
- In a patrol capacity assigned to areas in marked ‘Patrol Assistant’ vehicle.
- Performs traffic, pedestrian, and crowd control functions.
- Issues Notices of Violation relating to parking infractions.
- Impounds abandoned or illegally parked vehicles, and/or lost property and prepares related paperwork.
- Enters data or information into a terminal or PC.
- Performs investigations, conducts investigation follow-ups, and documents the information in a report.
- Collects data from various sources (i.e., computerized crime and traffic databases, etc.).
- Serves Subpoenas and Orders of Protection.
- Assists with the training and development of new employees.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
SALARY
Pay Range: $20.51 to $35.08 per hour
Hiring Range: $20.51 to $31.82 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years of public contact or customer assistance experience.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Experience with CLIPS, RMS and Pre-booking.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working for or volunteering for a law enforcement agency.
