The Phoenix Police Department offers officers access to over 80 specialty details and assignments, making it one of the most versatile and opportunity-rich law enforcement agencies in the country. These specialty details allow officers to pursue a wide variety of career paths within the department, catering to different skills, interests, and areas of expertise.

Officers can test for specialty positions after 3 years of working patrol.

Once probation has been completed as a Phoenix Police Officer, lateral and prior service certified police officers may use 50% of their other police agency time to meet the three-year requirement to transfer into a specialty detail.
