Military Service Members & Veterans
Supporting Military & Veterans: Our Partnerships
At the Phoenix Police Department, we take immense pride in our collaboration with the Department of Defense SkillBridge program and the Arizona Coalition for Military Families. This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting our dedicated service members as they transition into civilian life and embark on new career journeys. Whether you’re in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard or Space Force, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities that military service entails. Our comprehensive support includes provisions for military leave time, position preservation during deployment, and GI Bill® benefits to facilitate your transition into PHX PD.
Military Leave Time
Employees in the Reserves or National Guard will be granted up to 30 shifts of paid leave every two consecutive military fiscal years so they can participate in weekend and annual drills.
Position Preservation
GI Bill® Benefits
Phoenix Police Department is recognized through the United States Department of Veteran Affairs as an Educational Institution that provides an on-the-job training program for new police officers. Under the provisions listed in the Montgomery GI Bill and Post 9/11 GI Bill, employees who are veterans may receive increased educational benefits and educational assistance allowance while attending the police academy and during field training.
Veterans who qualify for this benefit must be a sworn police officer having graduated from the Phoenix Police Academy. This benefit will be paid to you through your one-year probationary period in addition to your regular salary.
