Meet Our Recruiters
Officer Darline Maitland
Officer Darline Maitland has been with the Phoenix Police Department for nearly seventeen years, serving in patrol roles and as a detective in Child Crimes and Domestic Violence units. She also mentors recruits at the Phoenix Regional Police Academy and leads the SWET (Success with Effort and Training) program to help applicants prepare for the physical fitness portion of the hiring process.
With a background as a chiropractor specializing in nutrition and physiotherapy, Maitland brings expertise as a Physical Fitness Instructor. She is a first-degree black belt in taekwondo, a certified personal trainer, and an IFBB Figure Pro. Officer Maitland holds an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and Science, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a degree in Chiropractic Medicine. Since joining the recruiting unit in 2021, she has worked to attract individuals who embody the department’s core values.
Officer Sam Pimentel
Officer Sam Pimentel has been with the Phoenix Police Department for 18 and a half years, serving as a Patrol Officer in various precincts, including Maryvale, Central City, and Mountain View. She spent two years as a field training officer and later joined the Executive Protection Detail for the Mayor and Chief of Police.
Before joining the police department, Officer Pimentel was a student-athlete at Grand Canyon University, where she played basketball and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She worked as a juvenile corrections officer and a surveillance officer with adult probation before attending the Academy.
Since 2023, she has been part of the recruiting unit, where she enjoys helping others find meaningful career paths in the City of Phoenix.
Officer Danica Tatge
Officer Danica Tatge has worked with the Phoenix Police Department for three years, starting as a Patrol Officer in the Cactus Park Precinct before becoming a Recruiter in the Employment Services Unit.
Before joining the department, she gained experience in the food and beverage industry, sales, and business ownership. For the past six years, she has volunteered and served as a Board Member of the Arizona Law Enforcement Emerald Society, which supports officers and their families in need.
Since 2024, Officer Tatge has focused on recruiting and inspiring candidates about pursuing a career in law enforcement, guiding future officers through the hiring process for the Phoenix Police Department.
Officer Garrett Hopkins
Officer Garrett Hopkins has been with the Phoenix Police Department for 5 years and is passionate about serving and protecting the community. During his career he has worked as a Patrol Officer in the Maryvale precinct. Before Officer Hopkins started his career with the Phoenix Police Department, he served in the Arizona Army National Guard for 6 years. Officer Hopkins also worked a variety of other jobs before joining the Phoenix Police Department to include construction worker, cook, and security guard.
Officer Hopkins has recently joined the recruiting unit in the beginning of 2025. He is eager to assist future partners with starting their exciting and fulfilling careers with the Phoenix Police Department.
Sergeant John Childress
Sergeant John Childress has served with the Phoenix Police Department for nearly 17 years, working as a Patrol Officer in various precincts and as a Field Training Officer. He later became a Detective in the Employee Assistance Unit, supporting employees and their families through challenges. Promoted to Sergeant in 2021, he served in the Maryvale Estrella Mountain and Cactus Park precincts.
Before joining the police department, Sergeant Childress was a Track and Field athlete at Michigan State University and worked in loss prevention for a national electronics company. Since 2023, he has been part of the recruiting unit, eager to connect with the community and help others find rewarding careers in law enforcement.
